Art, story and a little bit of the unexpected
I'm Ilee DeSoto, an artist, author, and lifelong creative with a love for beautiful places, interesting characters, and stories that make us feel something.
Creativity has always been part of who I am. Over the years, it has taken many forms—from photography and writing to design and visual art—but at the heart of it all has always been the same desire: to create something that connects with people.
My artwork is inspired by the world around me and the world I imagine. I'm drawn to wide-open landscapes, untamed places, strong and soulful characters, nostalgic moments, and scenes that contain just enough of the unexpected to make you look twice. Sometimes a piece begins somewhere familiar. Other times, it takes us somewhere else entirely.
Through expressive color, rich texture, and an oil-painting-inspired approach, I create pieces that balance familiarity with imagination. I love artwork that feels as though it has a history—that perhaps there is a story happening just beyond the edge of the canvas. A cowboy holding on for the ride. A traveler standing beneath an impossible sky. A woman surrounded by bees and wildflowers. A quiet moment beside the sea. Each one invites you to wonder what happened before—and what might happen next.
That spirit has naturally shaped my work into three worlds: Bold Spirits, celebrating character, individuality, and soul; Roam Wild, inspired by freedom, adventure, nature, and the places that call us back; and Somewhere Else, where imagination gets to wander a little farther and the ordinary becomes wonderfully unexpected.
But more than anything, I create art for people to live with.
I believe the right artwork can change the feeling of a room. It can remind you of somewhere you've been, somewhere you dream of going, or even a part of yourself you recognize without quite knowing why. It can make you smile, make you curious, bring back a memory, or simply make home feel a little more like you.
That is what I hope you find here.
Not simply something to hang on a wall, but a piece that speaks to you—a story you want to keep, a place you want to return to, or something unexpected that makes you pause every time you pass it.
Because for me, the best art isn't just something we see.
It's something we feel.
